mcilwain tissue chopper

mcilwain tissue chopper

Description :

This device is designed to cut fresh or fixed tissue for metabolic experiments. It is particularly useful for slicing small or irregularly shaped specimens, such as those obtained from biopsies. The McIlwain Tissue Chopper causes significantly less disturbance to cell structures compared to homogenizers or blenders and has been effectively used on various tissues of the central nervous system, as well as liver and kidney. It can prepare slices up to 1mm thick and cubes or prisms up to 1mm cross-section in just 30 seconds. The slice thickness can be adjusted steplessly from zero to the maximum using an indexing clutch and a micrometer head calibrated in microns. The specimen is placed on a circular white plastic disc on the stainless steel table, which moves automatically from left to right at an adjustable speed. Simultaneously, the blade is raised and dropped at speeds varying from zero to over 200 strokes per minute. To create prisms, repeat the process with the table turned 45°. For cubes, turn the table 90° on the second cut. The chopper comes with a cutting table, clips, a plastic disc, and a blade clamp wrench. The McIlwain Tissue Chopper is also available with a petri dish cutting table. The blade holder and cutting table are modified to accommodate Ø60 x 13.7mm H petri dishes. These specialty, sterile Polystyrene Petri Dishes are required for use with the petri dish table. The standard McIlwain Tissue Chopper can be converted for petri dishes by replacing the standard blade holder and cutting table with the respective parts. Safety Warning: This instrument does not have a blade guard. Exercise caution when using this equipment. Keep hands clear of the blade and table when cutting sections. Remove the blade when the instrument is not in use. Technical Specifications: · Slice thickness: 0-1mm stepless · Cutting speed: adjustable, 0 to over 200 strokes/min. · Blade force: adjustable · Blade travel: adjustable · Table: traverses left to right · Limit switch: prevents overrunning · Fuse: 3.15 amp anti-surge (T) 5 x 20mm · Electrical: 110 or 220VAC · Power: 1A/115W @ 115V; 0.5A/115W @ 230V · Dimensions: 31 x 28.5 x 15cm (12" x 11" x 6") · Weight: 8kg (17.6 lbs.) Feather® Blades Feather® blades are made from carbon steel and feature sharp edges. To use, break them in half lengthwise while ensuring finger protection and using eye protection. These blades are the preferred choice for the PELCO easiSlicer™ and are also ideally suited for use with Microslicer™, Vibratome®, and other vibratory slicers. Additionally, they perform excellently when used whole in the McIlwain Tissue Chopper. · Length: 42.8mm (1.685") · Cutting Edge Length: 36mm (1.42") · Width: 22mm (0.865") · Thickness: 0.127mm (0.0045") Double Edge, Breakable Style Razor Blades These PTFE-coated stainless steel blades are individually wrapped and bulk packed. For use, break them in half lengthwise, ensuring to protect fingers and use eye protection. They are suitable for the PELCO easiSlicer™, Microslicer™, Vibratome®, and other brands of vibratory microtomes. These blades serve as a suitable alternative to Feather® blades when used whole in the McIlwain Tissue Chopper. · Length: 42.9mm (1.69") · Cutting Edge Length: 37.1mm (1.46") · Width: 21.7mm (0.855") · Thickness: 0.11mm (0.004") McIlwain Tissue Chopper Blade Installation 1. Remove Securing Nut: Using the provided wrench, remove the single nut on the blade holder. 2. Detach Blade Securing Plate: Slide off the blade securing plate. 3. Insert Blade: Position the blade by sliding the center hole over the bolt on the blade holder. 4. Reattach Securing Plate: Slide the blade holder securing plate back into place. 5. Secure Blade: Reattach and tighten the nut with the wrench to secure the blade.
