It is an important reagent in organic synthesis, especially Duff reaction, Sommelet reaction and in the Delepine reaction. Further, it is used in adhesives, coatings, sealants, and leather preservatives. It is utilized as a formaldehyde releaser for photographic film development and as a hardener for epoxy resins of the bisphenol A type.
